Arrest On East River Island

Thanks to Matt Aresco for forwarding this week's FWC Division of Law Enforcement Field Operations Weekly Report (pdf). An excerpt:

"Officer Joe Chambers was working the East River Island area of the Choctawhatchee Wildlife Management Area (primitive weapons only) when he found a boat along the shoreline of the island. A check of the boat's registration numbers showed the registered owner was a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history. Officer Gary Tolbert responded to the area to assist. Just after dark the hunter came out of the woods and was stopped on the river by Officer Chambers. A resource/ boating safety inspection found a loaded .38-caliber revolver, 50 rounds of ammo, 7.7 grams of cannabis, and rolling papers. The subject was cited for possession of a firearm during archery only season, possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia. An additional charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon will follow after a check with the Board of Clemency and a certification of conviction is obtained."

It's good to know the enforcement guys are doing their job, but it's best to avoid confrontations with strangers.
