About 1500 acres in size, Boynton Island lies between the old Choctawhatchee River channel on the west and the Boynton Cutoff and the lowermost stretch of Holmes Creek on the east. With a mix of cypress/tupelo first bottoms and sweetgum/oak/spruce pine second bottoms, it is one of several examples of mature forest in the area.
